When I travel, one of the best feelings is experiencing a new place as if it’s my home away from home. Throughout all of my adventures, I like to find ways to make my trip feel like I have a new place I can call home wherever I’m staying, which is why I love using AirBnb when I travel.
During my first trip to Denver, CO, I found the cutest little house to stay in and I truly felt like I belonged there. When I first came across the listing, I knew it was my top choice. I’m always looking for ways to travel on a budget, so renting a private room in a house was a great way to save some money. After reading the description and the reviews about the host John, I could tell it was going to be great experience!

What first caught my interest was the artistic decor and quirky aesthetic of the house. There’s so much artwork, bright colors and natural light throughout the house. It felt so unique. Plus as a guest, I had the top floor all to myself, which added an extra bit of privacy.
I’ll be honest, part of me felt iffy about staying at an AirBnb where the host was also living, but then I thought, “How much time am I actually going to be here? All I need is a safe & comfortable place to sleep. During the day I’m going to be out traveling and exploring, so why spend more money on renting an entire house or apartment?” I’m happy I took a second to talk myself out of that fear, because it saved me so much money that I could instead use on experiences, souvenirs and of course food!

During my stay I felt like I had so much freedom. John was such a sweet host! He was available for my arrival, gave me a tour with all the ins & outs about the house. He made me feel welcomed and like I was allowed to be myself in his home. John shared so many great tips about nearby restaurants, and fun things to do. He even left me a ‘Welcome to Denver’ gift (let’s just say it was 420 friendly & required a lighter).
One of my favorite parts about his house is the patio. It’s the epitome of chill! The space is decorated with comfy couches, hanging lanterns, fun colors, and the coolest swinging bed I’ve seen. It’s the perfect place to have a peaceful morning or unwind after a long day of sight-seeing or hiking.
John’s dog Rudy was also a highlight of my stay. Rudy is so cute and friendly! He quickly became my loving side-kick during my stay. I’m a huge dog lover, and since I was traveling alone, it was nice to have company and a cuddle buddy.

The location is about a 5-10 minute walk to Denver’s downtown RiNo district, which is full of amazing restaurants, trendy shops & art galleries. I found the walk to be very pleasant and felt safe walking alone at all times of day. For the price of $50 a night, you can’t go wrong! I felt like I was living like a queen but on a peasant’s budget. I can’t recommend this stay enough! The next time I plan a trip to Denver, I am definitely staying at John’s charming cottage again.
