This root chakra meditation will help you feel grounded and at home in your body, so you can feel safe to flow freely throughout the day.
The root chakra, or muladhara in sanskrit, is your survival center. It’s the first energy center of the body, that helps us feel stable, safe and secure. It’s located at the base of the spine, and is associated with the color red.
It also helps us feel grounded and connected to the earth. When we feel safe, we can settle in and allow our lives to take root and grow and flow. However, when our sense of safety and connection gets threatened or we experience trauma, it causes our energy to feel stuck and stagnant, leading to lack of vitality or life force energy.
When the unexpected happens, it can feel like your world is turned upside down. It’s hard to think, focus, and get through your daily routine because you’re stuck in fear. Constant worry keeps your mind looped in survival mode, which can wreak havoc on your health. Also known as the fight, flight or freeze response, this is our primal animal nature that initiates from root chakra energy.
An unbalanced root chakra can lead to the following symptoms:
- anxiety, worry, frustration, rage, insecurity, restlessness, lack of energy, overeating, insomnia
When it’s in balance, we feel secure in our bodies and our decisions, we can focus, and we have a sense of belonging and purpose.
The following root chakra meditation will help you destress, feel safe, and grounded in your body. I recommend doing this meditation first thing in the morning to start your day from a place of stability and connection.
Fun Tip: Try this meditation standing barefoot on the grass for some extra grounding magic from mother earth!
